Ella O’Heir Lifts Blue Devils to First Win

September 21, 2023

Senior Ella O’Heir scored a pair of goals and the Huntington field hockey team’s defensive unit was perfect to lift the Blue Devils to their first victory of the season at North Babylon, 5-0.

O’Heir was splendid in pacing Huntington’s offense. The Blue Devils benefitted from a balanced attack. Junior Charlotte Curtin notched a goal and two assists. Brooke Parks and Olivia Polinsky both had a goal and an assist.

Huntington has been struggling to find consistency after graduating an especially large group of talented seniors last June. The Blue Devils have been working hard with many new players in the varsity lineup. Against North Babylon it all finally came together.

“I think the team’s passing was on point and our offense started to connect very well when we reached the circle,” O’Heir said.

The team is captained by O’Heir, Polinsky, Jordana Paniccia and Elizabeth Stair. Kathy Wright and Allison Conlon are the coaches.

Huntington scored in each of the four periods against the Bulldogs and took a 3-0 lead into halftime. “This was an amazing win for us,” Polinsky said. “Our team’s connection on the field keeps getting stronger every game.”

North Babylon goalies Ximara Aristied and Jean Umana combined to stop 11 Blue Devil shots in the game.

“We definitely improved a lot these past couple of games and that showed in our win against North Babylon,” Parks said. “We had really great passes up the field. Everyone worked together as a team, which led us to winning.”
