Huntington senior Kate Barba has been named by Newsday as one of the top girls’ volleyball players on Long Island this fall. She is one of the key Blue Devils who have led the team to six wins so far this season.
“It’s truly an honor to have been recognized in Newsday for my volleyball accomplishments,” Ms. Barba. “Being featured as a top player is a validating moment for the hard work, dedication and passion I have invested in my volleyball career. I have spent countless hours of practice, learning and pushing myself to excel. I also need to give a lot of credit to my team, coaches, and my parents. I really appreciate their support, collaboration and hard work.”
Huntington has won six-of-seven matches and is halfway to a playoff berth. “The team’s current mindset is very positive and we are really motivated to make the playoffs,” Ms. Barba. “Starting the season well has boosted our confidence and we are determined to maintain this level of performance throughout the season. We understand that there are a lot more challenges ahead and we will look for opportunities to improve and apply lessons learned from each match.”
The teenager is one of the top students in the Class of 2024. “I have had such a rewarding experience at Huntington High School,” Ms. Barba said. “Academically, I had the opportunity to explore my interests, which helped me better understand my strengths.”
The senior also plays on the varsity softball team and she’s involved in various extracurricular clubs. “I have been actively involved in clubs and sports, which has allowed me to develop leadership skills and learn the importance of teamwork,” Ms. Barba said. “These experiences outside of the classroom contributed to my personal growth. Balancing academic responsibilities with extracurricular activities ultimately taught me how to prioritize and manage my commitments effectively. Overall, I feel Huntington High School provided a solid foundation for my future endeavors.”
The teenager has posted exceptional statistics this fall. “Volleyball has been a great part of my life, and the idea of continuing to play at the college level is something I am passionate about,” Ms. Barba said. “I hope I get the opportunity to represent a college team and contribute to their success. I also understand how important college is academically to my future career goals in life. I’ve enjoyed the sciences in high school and I plan on taking more classes in college to see what direction it leads me.”
