Huntington’s Sophia Tine Anticipates Fun Senior Year

September 14, 2023

Sophia Tine is one of Huntington High School’s most creative students. The senior has been excelling in computer graphics as well as on the stage with the drama club and as a vocalist. The new school year is shaping up as an exciting time in the teenager’s life.

“I really enjoy art, so I am excited for my Advanced Computer Graphics class along with my Portfolio Development class,” Ms. Tine said. “This will be my third year with the Art Honor Society as well as my third year participating in the high school’s drama club and spring musical. As far as other activities, I just want to enjoy my senior year and all it has to offer.”

Ms. Tine said she is “looking forward” to working with computer graphics art teacher Kasmira Mohanty. “She has helped me realize my potential and it pushes me to do my best,” the senior said. “I also really enjoy working with Mr. [Michael] Schwendemann and Ms. [Victoria] Garbarino during the drama club and musical productions. It is a lot of hard work and long days, but it is completely worth it in the end.”

The teenager anticipates a senior year filled with fun events such as homecoming, prom, field day and many others along the way.

“My time at Huntington High School has been a fun and positive experience,” Ms. Tine said. “I have learned a lot about myself over the last few years. Freshman year started off unstable due to Covid and there was a huge learning curve for all of us. However, getting back to the classrooms, seeing friends and teachers again was exciting. I have had some incredible teachers that have pushed me out of my comfort zone and have helped me realize what I am capable of.”

Ms. Tine was able to spend time this past summer with family members that she doesn’t regularly see. “My aunt and two cousins (eight and 17 years old) were here visiting from Denmark,” she said. “During their visit we toured Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, the Bronx Zoo and our beautiful East End. We spent our days at the beach and our nights watching outdoor movies, playing games or dining out. I also went on vacation with my family and we visited historical Charleston, South Carolina and Myrtle Beach.”

The teenager’s plans for life after high school are still developing. “My interest is in art or animation however, I am not entirely sure at this moment where I am headed,” Mr. Tine said. “I think for now I will stay local, take some classes and see which direction I am going to go.”
