Student Leadership at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School

The concept and practice of student leadership is already taking on new heights at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School.

“For the past four years, students at STEM have participated in the House program,” Principal Donna Moro said. “This year, a select group of students will act as House ambassadors. There are four ambassadors per house. They will be responsible for leading by example, doing their best to embody the character traits being emphasized this year, including teamwork, respect, responsibility, gratitude, etc. and helping to lead our House Hero assemblies, which recognizes students for demonstrating the monthly character traits, running center activities during house parties and assisting teacher House leaders in conducting monthly house meetings.”

Each Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School student belongs to a specific “house” and each house earns points throughout the month for demonstrating qualities such as respect and responsibility. Each month, the winning house earns a ‘house party’ and at the end of the year a trophy is awarded to the overall winner followed by a parade through the school.

The House system is billed as a “dynamic, exciting and proven way to create a positive climate and culture for students and staff.”

“We are excited to have our students begin to shape the future of the House program at STEM,” Ms. Moro said.
