September 8, 2023

While it might terrify most people, Josie Sullivan feels completely comfortable and right at home standing in front of a large crowd and performing. The Huntington High School junior is a spectacular vocalist and actress and a fine student, too.

“I am really looking forward to meeting new teachers and new people this year,” Ms. Sullivan said. “I always love the start of the school year because it’s a fresh start, but also because I get to return to all of the amazing courses and clubs at school that I love. And of course I always look forward to chamber choir with Mrs. [Victoria] Garbarino! It’s always the best part of my day.”

Ms. Sullivan got her start in Huntington UFSD as a Washington Primary School kindergartener. She was a standout swimmer with real potential before deciding to commit fully to singing and acting.

“This year I’m really excited to be taking Advanced Placement Music Theory and as always, I can’t wait for school play and musical season,” Ms. Sullivan said. “Right now I’m involved in a theater production of “Carrie the Musical” outside of school and it’s an amazing experience. And of course, working with Mr. Schwendemann on the school plays and musicals is always the best part of my year!”

A personable young woman, Ms. Sullivan really thrives in front of an audience. She’s popular with many trusted friends and she earns top grades, too.

“My experience at Huntington High School so far has been absolutely amazing,” Ms. Sullivan said. “It’s hard to believe I’m already going into my junior year! I have the amazing teachers that I’ve had and the friends that I’ve made to thank for such an amazing past two years at school.”

Looking ahead to the future, Ms. Sullivan’s path has come into focus. “My whole life I’ve been pretty determined to go to school for something involving music or theatre and at this point, that’s what I’m still hoping to do,” she said.
