Junior Sam Soric Shines at Huntington High School
September 7, 2023
Sam Soric is one of the top vocalists at Huntington High School, but that barely scratches the surface of the junior’s talents. The teenager is perfectly positioned for an outstanding year.
Mr. Soric earns excellent grades while fully participating in the high school’s club and sports programs. This marks his fifth year with the Blue Devil marching band. He is the center snare in its drumline.
“Marching band has opened up so many opportunities for me and introduced me to amazing friends,” Mr. Soric said. “In my freshman year I joined the tennis and fencing teams. It stuck with me up until now and I plan on fencing until I graduate.”
Mr. Soric was in the cast of spring musicals as a freshman and sophomore, lighting up the stage in “42nd Street” and “Seussical,” in which he played the part of Mr. Mayor.
“The music program has been a big part of my life as I grow my voice,” he said. “I completed my first All-State solo this year where I got a 99 and just made it into All-State, where I will sing with top students in New York.”
Mr. Soric is well-liked by both his classmates and teachers. He’s known for giving whatever he gets involved in his best effort.
“As I begin to think about my future, I plan on singing in a college choir and joining the marching band,” he said. “My future major is not definite, but I plan on spending time studying abroad and traveling around the world to learn about various cultures and to experience life in another country.”
Mr. Soric will serve as the Italian Honor Society’s treasurer this year and he plans to write for The Dispatch, the high school’s student newspaper. He’s also a member of Tri-M Music Honor Society.
“I am looking forward to taking AP’s that I find interest in such as Advanced Placement Italian, AP Seminar, AP Statistics and AP Environmental Science,” Mr. Soric said. “I am also looking forward to my second year in the chamber choir with friends and talented classmates.”
Mr. Soric is expected to perform “The Star Spangled Banner” at the 100th anniversary Blue Devil varsity football team’s night game on Friday, September 29 against visiting Smithtown East.
