Nicholas Sclafani achievement something most golfers only dream about. The Huntington High School senior dropped a hole-in-one last Friday.

Huntington senior Nicholas Sclafani.

Playing alongside his Blue Devil teammates on the third hole of Sunken Meadow State Park’s “blue” course, Mr. Sclafani teed the ball up without having any way of knowing what would happen next.

“It started off a little bit left and I said that I pulled it,” Mr. Sclafani said. “It started to fade towards the green and I thought it would be pretty decent. It took one bounce and the ball disappeared into the hole. Before thinking, I just started sprinting to the ball to see if it was real.”

It was real! There are about 500 million rounds of golf played annually in the United States according to the National Hole-In-One Registry. A hole in one is scored once every 3,500 rounds.

The teenager is very comfortable on a golf course. “I live a couple houses down from the Huntington Crescent Club and I have been a member and playing golf for as long as I can remember,” Mr. Sclafani said. “My brothers were both captains of the Huntington team and that has been a goal of mine since sixth grade. I’m now in my second year of being the captain.”

Blue Devil golf coach Michael Marinello was just as excited as Mr. Sclafani and his teammates. A hole-in-one produces an unforgettable memory.

The senior is interested in attending Penn State University or Clemson University. “I want to major in sports communications and find a job in the sports world,” Mr. Sclafani said.
