Finley Fall Sports Season Ramps Up

The fall sports season at J. Taylor Finley Middle School is ramping up. Tryouts begin this week and are expected to extend into next week as well before rosters are finalized. There are two girls’ soccer teams, two boys’ soccer teams as well as football, co-ed cross country and field hockey teams for seventh and eighth graders to choose from.

Interested in playing? Sign up with the school nurse during lunch periods on Wednesday. The football team will meet in the school gym after school on Wednesday, September 6.

All other teams will either practice or meet on Thursday (September 7) according to the schedule below:

Field Hockey: Meeting from 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Girls Soccer: Meeting from 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the gymnasium.

Boys Soccer: Practice from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on the soccer field.

Co-ed Cross Country: Practice from 3:00-4:15 p.m. Meet on the paved outdoor basketball court behind the gymnasium.

Football: Practice from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on the football field.

The practice schedule for Friday, September 8 is as follows:

Field Hockey: Practice from 3:00-4:30 p.m. on the field hockey field.

Girls Soccer: Practice from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on the soccer field.

Boys Soccer: Practice from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on the soccer field.

Co-ed Cross Country: Practice from 3:00-4:15 p.m. Meet on the paved outdoor basketball court behind the gymnasium.

Football: Practice from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on the football field.

Girls Tennis: Practice from 3:00-4:30 p.m. on the tennis courts.

Every student needs to get re-qualified by the school nurse prior to each sport season. The nurse can only clear a student-athlete who has the following forms on file:

1. Required NYS Health Examination Form (click for link)

Physical exams can be performed by private doctor or school doctor and are valid for one year.

2. Interval Health History for Sports Participation (English/Spanish) (click for link)

A new form is required for each season; must be completed by parent/guardian, signed in ink and dated within 30 days of the start of the season.

3. Parent Consent Form for Athletes (English/Spanish) (click for link)

On the first day of tryouts/practice, students should:

1. Be dressed appropriately and ready to participate in their respective sport.

2. Submit to their coach a blue parent permission form signed by both parent/guardian and student.

3. Have transportation home by 5 p.m.
