Trustees Approve Tenure Appointment for Teachers
September 1, 2023
Huntington School Board members have approved tenure appointments for nine district teachers, effective September 1. Trustees took the action during a public meeting this past Monday night in the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School auditorium.
The teachers include Michael Corcoran (science), Gregory Dieterich (business), Evelyn Hernandez (guidance), Jordan Ioviero (physical education), Elaine Leon (elementary), Jenna Merget (art), Melissa Sorrentino (science), Nicholas Wagner (mathematics) and Devin Wentt (foreign language).
Superintendent James W. Polansky announced the name of each newly tenured teacher. Many were in the audience and either stood or waved as audience members and trustees applauded.
Each of the teachers successfully served through a years-long probationary period during which they were observed and evaluated four times annually.
The teachers were called to the front of the auditorium and presented with a rose and then posed for a commemorative photo with Mr. Polansky and Huntington School President and Vice President, Xavier Palacios and Michele Kustera.
“I was beyond pleased to congratulate and honor this terrific group personally at my final meeting,” Mr. Polansky said. “They have been tremendous assets to the district, as well its students and families, during their initial years here. There are undoubtedly many more great things to come from them as their careers in Huntington continue to develop.”
