Blue Devils at East Hampton in Suffolk Final Four

October 30, 2023

The Huntington boys’ soccer team plays a Suffolk Class AA Final Four playoff game at East Hampton on Monday at 2 p.m. The winner will advance to Thursday afternoon’s county championship game.

The Blue Devils come into Monday’s game with a 14-2-1 record. East Hampton is 11-2-1. Huntington topped Comsewogue in the quarterfinals in overtime, 4-3. East Hampton edged West Islip in overtime, 1-0.

“After our first playoff win the other day everyone knew the job wasn’t done yet and we’re ready for this semifinal,” Dante Salgado said. “As we get closer toward our goal we are prepared for another tough game and will put everything out on the field and come out on top.”

Huntington is coached by John Pagano, Jason Suarez and Jose Alfaro.

“Coming off of one of the biggest wins this of the season, we are feeling very confident, but focused,” Bryan Lizama said. “Our coaches are keeping us in check. We know what we are capable of, but we are being kept humble at the same time because we haven’t done nothing yet. We are ready for what’s to come at East Hampton and we know we have to give everything we got even if that means with a crowd of five people or 500 backing us up. We all believe we will do big things this year. We just have to take it step by step and in this case East Hampton is in our way.”

The Blue Devils are captained by Bryan Lizama, Edwin Marroquin, Dante Salgado and Jerson Contreras.

“The team feels really strong; thankfully no one is hurt,” Contreras said. “We are healthy, wanting more and as always, aiming for that one big goal the team has. It’s a time when we all come together closer than ever to be where we want to be at. I feel really positive and confident with this group of boys.”
