Trustees Approve Video Broadcasting III Course

October 30, 2023

The popularity of Huntington High School’s new video broadcasting program has led to addition of a new course for the 2024/25 school year: Video Broadcasting III. Annual registration is expected to initially include as many as a dozen juniors and seniors.

The new course was approved by the Subject Matter Council on September 28 followed by the district’s Educational Development Committee on October 5. The Huntington School Board gave its approval during a public meeting on Monday, October 23.

“This course will further expand on the knowledge and skills gained from Video Broadcasting II,” states the course description presented to trustees. “Students will use their previous knowledge and experience regarding various technical positions in and around the control room, studio and Mac lab. Students will act as reporters by researching, directing, producing and filming broadcast episodes expanding beyond the morning announcements. Hands-on, real-life experiences using industry level equipment such as premiere pro and TriCaster technology will be used as students continue to gain a working knowledge of the broadcasting industry. Video Broadcasting III will prepare students for an advanced portfolio-based course the following year.”

Assistant Superintendent Beth McCoy introduced to the new course to the trustees and then explained the rationale for it.

“Video Broadcasting III will serve as the ‘next step for Video Broadcasting II students who would like to continue developing their understanding of the content area, equipment and technology,” Mrs. McCoy said. “This course will provide students an opportunity for advanced levels of content creation, and professional uses of related software and hardware. Students will be able to produce more personalized broadcasts and high-level packages.”

Trustees voted 7-0 to approve the new course.
