Sophomore Alex Tine Immersed in All Things Huntington

October 27, 2023

Alexander Tine likes a good challenge. He likes to be pushed. It makes him work even harder than usual and it elicits the best in the Huntington High School sophomore. The multi-talented teenager is in the midst of a great run and he’s just getting started.

Mr. Tine is taking a slate of interesting courses, including Honors Italian, Honors English and Creative Video. “I like the challenge the classes present; it pushes me to work harder and let my creativity flow,” he said.

The teenager has really found a home at the high school. “Huntington has so many clubs to explore and I am so happy to be a part of the drama club productions for both the fall and spring shows,” Mr. Tine said. “I have become a new member of this year’s chamber choir and I love it. I think Tri-M Music Honor Society is next up for me.”

Mr. Tine is also heading into his second year on the Huntington varsity fencing team. “I really enjoy the team experience and the people I have met,” he said.

Performing in a variety of ways is high up on the list of things Mr. Tine enjoys doing outside of class. “This year, I am looking forward to participating in Cabaret Night along with the fall and spring drama club productions,” he said. “It is exciting to expand my talents both musically and theatrically. I look forward to working with both Mr. [Michael] Schwendamann and Ms. [Victoria] Garbarino.”

It seems as if Mr. Tine is always involved in something interesting. “This past summer was one I will remember for years to come,” he said. “I spent two weeks traveling around Italy, visiting different cities, taking in the sights and meeting some family for the first time. I had the opportunity to hike Mt. Etna, which was my favorite place to visit while in Italy. I was home for a week when I packed up once again and headed to Rhode Island, where I spent the week camping with the Boy Scouts, working on requirements and exploring nature. I am currently working towards earning my Eagle Scout Award, which I am looking forward to.”

The teenager even had time to travel to historic Charleston, South Carolina last summer, exploring the city before relaxing for the remaining days before the start of the new school year.

“My time at Huntington High School so far has been an amazing experience,” Mr. Tine said. “I have made a lot of great memories and I love being challenged academically. I have had the opportunity to have some amazing teachers who have helped me see my potential and to work hard to achieve my goals.”

While Mr. Tine is currently immersed in all things Huntington, he has given some thought to his future path in life.

“As a sophomore, I am undecided at this time which specific college I want to attend, although the California Institute of the Arts is a school I would be interested in,” Mr. Tine said. “I do, however, know that I would like a career in film production or theater.”
