An Amazing Acoustic Night as Vocalists Shine
October 24, 2023
The Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School auditorium came to life last Friday as some of the most spectacular vocalists at Huntington High School made the choral program’s Acoustic Night an evening to remember even if the weather did prevent the show from being held in the enchanting outdoor amphitheater.
Huntington has never had a shortage of creative and talented teenagers and this year is no different. The response to the call for performers once again overwhelmed event organizers.
With family, friends, teachers and district officials in attendance, Huntington’s musicians and singers shined. The sounds were both electrifying and calming. You had to be there. The crowd repeatedly signaled its approval.
Choral director Victoria Garbarino organized the evening. “Acoustic Night 2023 edition was a really wonderful evening of performances,” said Brian Stellato, director of fine and performing arts. “The event showcased our amazing Huntington High School student talent. I’d like to thank everyone who came out to support our high school choral program.”
Some performers took the stage more than once with a different partner. There were 24 acts in all. Alexa Schirripa was master of ceremonies. The evening raised more than $1,000 for the choral program.
“Last night was amazing,” Josie Sullivan said. “Everyone who performed did so well and it was so great to see everyone come out to support the music department. I’m so grateful to Ms. Garbarino for setting events like this up for all of us. Everyone should look out for the announcement of our next music department fundraiser; Cabaret Night.”
The performers included Josie Sullivan, Sofia Rodriguez, Alexa Schirripa, Rachel Huth, Mia Molina, Liva Camarata, Alexandra Boeckman, Devon Elvir-Cover, Kiana Alfaro Hernandez, Giovanna Lanfranco, Emily Barba, Sam Soric, Lauren Dopico, Elizabeth James, Mike Zigon, Alexander Tine, James Stensland, Emily Kustera, Layna Abraham, Michaela Dopico and Chloe Hunt.
“Acoustic Night was so much fun,” Alexa Schirripa said. “It was filled with so many talented acts. So many fun memories were made.”
Principal Brenden Cusack even performed and so did high school aide, “Mr. Tony.” Mike Zigon, Logan Toth, Victoria Garbarino, Emily Kustera and Jose Chavez Prada accompanied some of the performers.
“Although the weather was against us, the event turned out amazing,” Sam Soric said. “Everyone was so talented and was able to shine with their own solos. I sang ‘Bigger Houses’ by Dan + Shay and was accompanied by piano. It was a great experience and I’m so excited for next year.”
Planning is already underway for next year’s event. Next up this school year is Cabaret Night. But for right now, last Friday night’s performers are still basking in the glow of the applause they received.
“I am so excited to have been able to participate in such an amazing event, with such talented artists and performers,” Layna Abraham said.
