Huntington Fall Athletic Participation Rises

Fall athletic participation in Huntington UFSD stands at 543 students spread across grades 7-12. The figure is more than 15 percent higher than last year.

There are 326 students participating on 18 varsity and JV teams at Huntington High School or 44 more participants this year. Specifically, there are 174 males on seven teams and 152 females on 11 teams. Last year, there were 135 males on six teams (JV boys golf was added for 2023) and 147 females on 11 teams.

At J. Taylor Finley Middle School, participation has grown from 188 to 217. There are 109 males on three teams and 85 females on four teams. The co-ed cross country team has 15 males and eight females for a total roster size of 23.

In the 2023/24 school year, Huntington UFSD offers students an athletic program that includes 34 varsity level teams; 15 JV teams and 24 middle school teams for a total of 73 Blue Devil athletic teams.

• Fall Season

Varsity: Football, boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, field hockey, boys’ golf, girls’ tennis, boys’ cross country, girls’ cross country, girls’ swimming and diving, girls’ volleyball, girls’ gymnastics

Junior Varsity: Football, boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, field hockey, girls’ volleyball, girls’ tennis, boys’ golf

Finley: Football, boys’ soccer (two teams), girls’ soccer (two teams), field hockey, girls’ tennis, co-ed cross country

• Winter Season

Varsity: Boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, boys’ indoor track and field, girls’ indoor track and field, boys’ fencing, girls’ fencing, wrestling, co-ed bowling, co-ed Unified bowling, boys’ swimming and diving, girls’ wrestling

The coaching staff totals 106, including 58 on the varsity level; 18 on the junior varsity level and 30 on the middle school level.
