Blue Devil Girls’ Soccer Parties with its Seniors
October 19, 2023
The Huntington girls’ soccer team paid tribute to nine of its longtime players on Senior Day at Blue Devil Stadium earlier this week. The group has worked hard and set a sensational example for the underclassmen on the roster.
Huntington recognized Veronica Cocoman, Katherine Estrada-Morales, Emersen Evans, Yuliana Hernandez-Perla, Jessica Maixner, Caroline McGreevy, Lily Mitek, Riley Murtagh and Reese Rinaldi.
Blue Devil Stadium was decorated with blue and white balloons and gorgeous photo posters for each of the seniors. The posters commemorated the respective career of each player.
Huntington head coach John Walsh and assistant coach Vincent Tannazzo played all nine seniors against a very tough East Islip team, which finished the regular season with an 11-2 record.
The Blue Devils stayed close in the first half before East Islip pulled away from Huntington over the final 40 minutes. But the seniors and their teammates and fans took delight in how the nine teenagers played their hearts out in the final appearance in a Huntington soccer uniform.
Post-game there were photos with teammates and family members on the running track surrounding the field and an impressive party in the school cafeteria with numerous hot and cold food choices and a table of desserts that proved hard to resist.
Walsh spoke about each senior, thanking them and noting what they have meant to the program over the years. The coach and recognized parents and complimented them on “raising such fine young woman.” He said that many of them passed through Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School where he teaches physical education and he has enjoyed watching them grow up.
Flowers and gifts were presented to the seniors and they appeared happy to spend just a little bit more time with each other as their days at Huntington High School continue to countdown.
