Flower Hill Hosts Parent Workshop on Technology

October 16, 2023

With technology playing a larger role than ever in classrooms and the lives of students, Flower Hill Primary School facilitated a well-attended parent engagement workshop in the building’s library to help bring everyone up to speed.

A recent Flower Hill parent engagement workshop drew dozens of participants

“This was an interactive session which was centered around Chromebook assistance and delving into various educational applications,” Flower Hill Principal Cindy Siegel said. “Families worked together to acquire skills and knowledge to enhance their child’s learning journey.”

Teachers Karen Grosso and Patty Haack facilitated and organized the workshop. School psychologist Andrea Becker and first grade teacher Caroline Zaczek also participated in the evening.

“Flower Hill is off to an amazing start to the new school year,” Ms. Siegel said. “On the first day of school, we kicked off  our Flower Hill Book Club with the text, ‘The Dot’ by Peter H. Reynolds. The  entire school community will have the opportunity to read a common text, and engage in learning, thinking, and responding to that shared text. The idea of our book club is for everyone to interact with the same text in a variety of ways to create a literacy community and also reinforce mindsets and habits we want to encourage. Our next book will be ‘The Sandwich Shop’ by  Kelly DiPucchio and Rania Al Abdullah.”

Flower Hill has also once again implemented our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. “PBIS is a proactive approach that focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors, leading to a more productive school experience,” Ms. Siegel said.

“We are embarking on a journey of growth, exploration and success in the upcoming year.”
