Kyra Scott comes to school happy. She has the heart of a giant and wants to make the world the best place it can be. She really does. The Huntington High School junior is taking interesting and challenging classes, leading the symphony orchestra as its president and prepping for fall and spring drama club productions.
Ms. Scott is an energetic young woman who strives to get the most out of life and make a difference with others. “This year I’ve been mainly looking forward to the drama club productions starting up,” she said. “I’ve also been putting much of my attention into getting the symphony orchestra out in the public as I am the president.”
The teenager has been looking forward to taking Advanced Placement Biology as well as her orchestra class. The drama club and its dramatic and musical productions are also never far from Ms. Scott’s mind.
“I’m mostly looking forward to Humbug auditions coming up,” Ms. Scott said. “I’m very excited to be able to work alongside some of my favorite people.”
This past summer, Ms. Scott worked as a freelance lighting technician primarily at The Rainbow Stage in Heckscher Park. “It was such a new and fun experience where I was fortunate enough to work alongside some amazing and very talented people,” she said.
Ms. Scott got her start in Huntington UFSD as a kindergartener at Washington Primary School. “I’ve met so many amazing people and teachers,” she said. “So many of the teachers really care about the well-being of the students and I have really grown to appreciate that as I’ve gotten older.”
Ms. Scott is a compassionate and caring soul, filled with kindness for others. Those qualities are reflected in what she wants to study in college and pursue as a career.
“Since my sophomore year, I’ve wanted to go to SUNY New Paltz to study music therapy,” Ms. Scott said. “I'd really like to work in a neonatal intensive care unit or a hospice residence. I believe that music, whether mental or physical, benefits the body and health in many different ways and I’d be honored to be able to use my knowledge to help people in need.”
