Sophia Weiss Makes Lifelong Friends at Huntington

Sophia Weiss is enjoying a great season as the Blue Devil varsity field hockey team’s goalie. She recently recorded a pair of shutouts and the Huntington High School junior has her eye on a college career in the sport. The teenager is enjoying the time of her life.

Ms. Weiss has looked strong in goal for the Blue Devils. Last spring, she played on the first ever varsity girls’ badminton team at Huntington and she intends to return next spring for a second season.

The junior also volunteers with the high school’s Habitat for Humanity chapter and is a member of Et Cetera, Huntington’s literary magazine club. Ms. Weiss is especially excited to be taking Advanced Placement seminar and Anatomy & Physiology, which fits nicely into her planned college studies.

“This year I am especially excited to be playing in the College Connections Winter Escape Field Hockey Scouting Tournament, which will take place in Florida in January as well as the LineUp Field Hockey Showcase in December, where I will get to work with top college coaches from the East Coast,” Ms. Weiss said.

The junior is working hard in all of her classes and embracing all the outside-of-class opportunities that she can. Ms. Weiss is having fun with her friends and teammates while pursuing all of her goals with enthusiasm.

“So far, I have had an amazing experience at Huntington High School,” Ms. Weiss said. “I have worked with many amazing teachers and I have made many lifelong friends. I love being involved with school activities and challenging myself academically.”

The teenager spent last summer working as a junior counselor at Camp Alvernia in Centerport. “Through this camp, I was able to receive my waterfront lifeguard/CPR certification,” Ms. Weiss said. “I also played with my Huntington field hockey teammates in a summer league and participated in the Long Island Field Hockey Summer Tune-Up.”

Ms. Weiss is a well-spoken and sharp witted young woman with a marvelous sense of humor. She’s an essential member of Huntington’s Class of 2025. Her classmates love her.

“Although I am not sure which college I would like to attend, I do know that I would like to play field hockey and major in either athletic training, exercise science of kinesiology,” Ms. Weiss said.
