Junior Charlotte Curtin Among Newsday’s LI Best
October 2, 2023
Newsday has named Huntington junior Charlotte Curtin to its Top 50 Long Island field hockey players to watch list. She plays forward for the Blue Devils and is the team’s leading scoring threat.
While Ms. Curtin is great on the field, she’s outstanding in the classroom, too. The happy-go-lucky teenager has a sly sense of humor and a quick intellect.
The junior has really dived into the high school’s extracurricular activities program. “I am really excited for Habitat for Humanity this year, we have some fun events planned and I am treasurer this year,” Ms. Curtin. “I am also treasurer for yearbook club, and the vice president of the Spanish Honor Society.”
Ms. Curtin said she has been “really looking forward” to taking Advanced Placement Pre-Calculus with high school math teacher David Moriarty. “I have always loved math; it’s my favorite subject,” she said. “I’m also really excited for AP Seminar with Mrs. [Dianna] Cazzalino.”
The teenager got her start in the district in kindergarten at Washington Primary School. “My experience at Huntington has been a lot of fun so far,” Ms. Curtin said. “Field hockey has definitely been a highlight of my experience. We had an amazing season last year ending in third place. This summer I went to a bunch of field hockey clinics and continued to train with my dad.”
Ms. Curtin enjoys traveling outside of school and last summer she visited Martha’s Vineyard with friends Nina Fascilla and Teah Login. “We had so much fun,” she said.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Curtin said she “really likes” the University of Connecticut, University of Michigan University of Delaware, Villanova University and Ohio State.
“I hope to play field hockey in college and I intend to major in sports medicine or kinesiology,” Ms. Curtin said. “I am very interested in becoming either a team doctor or a strength and conditioning coach for a big team.”
