Art Students Create Hispanic Heritage Month Display
October 2, 2023
Huntington High School creative crafts students in art teacher Jennifer Fazin’s classes created a free standing larger than life book display to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
Mrs. Fazin’s creative crafts classes were delighted to design a mixed media collaboration with teacher Devin Wentt, which included hand crafting skills such as building the foundation of the enlarged book, ironing on all 21 accurately represented Hispanic flags to fabric to create a faux skirt, collaging decorative paper to make the female dancing figure come to life and making two-dimensional flowers.
“This beautiful display was the work of the incredibly creative Jen Fazin and her amazing art students,” said Devin Wentt, a high school world language teacher. “They were so excited to work with Ms. Fazin to create the display to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month here at Huntington High School, where over half of our student body identifies as Hispanic or Latinx. Ms. Fazin and her students continue to be devoted to school spirit and making sure all students feel represented and empowered.”
Creative Crafts is a one credit, full year course available to students in grades 9-12. It is recommended for those interested in developing their creative potential through crafts.
“This course is designed to introduce students to materials and techniques used in traditional and contemporary crafts,” states the curriculum guide. “Ceramics, textile art, jewelry, basketry, glasswork, and woodwork are just some of the exciting projects included in the program. Students will gain an appreciation for the cultural roots of handcrafted objects as well as career opportunities and marketing outlets. Everyone can succeed in making beautiful art while expressing your creativity.”
