Cast of Drama Club’s Humbug Announced

November 30, 2023

The cast of the Huntington High School drama club’s December production of “Humbug” has been announced. Rehearsals are well underway in the auditorium. Three shows are planned.

The show’s cast totals 29. The actors will take the stage for performances on Friday, December 8 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, December 9 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

“‘Humbug’ by John Wooten is “A Christmas Carol’ with a modern day twist,” said Michael Schwendemann, the high school’s drama club advisor and the director of the show.

The cast includes Sofia Rodriguez in the lead role of Eleanor Scrooge. She will be joined by Lily Tierney, Lily Wasoski, Deveren Flynn, Michael DiVencenzo, Maggie O’Toole, Kyra Scott, Layna Abraham, Landry Flynn, Walter Lopez, Sam Soric, Alex Tine, Kayla Murillo, Jack Semelsberger, Alexis Schirripa, Will Berry, Josephine Sullivan, Isabella Cruz Ponce, Sophia Tine, Daniel Simon, Isabelle Gregorio, Michaela Dopico, James Stensland, Maya Ackerman, Jasmine Adcock, Lauren Dopico, Mason Gomez, Victoria Hart and Caleb Palermo.

“Play rehearsals are going great,” Ms. Wasoski said. “Everyone is really putting in hard work and there is such a great result. The show is really fun and such a good time for everyone in the play or those watching it. I can’t wait for everyone to see it on December 8-9.”

‘Humbug’ follows the story of Eleanor Scrooge, a ruthlessly ambitious Wall Street executive who has an aversion to Christmas and an insatiable appetite for power. “Locked in her office on a snowy Christmas Eve, Eleanor is determined to finish a corporate-takeover proposal until three ‘advisors’ provide her with an eye-opening new appreciation for the holidays and the spirit of Christmas.” Mr. Schwendemann said.

An uplifting and moving adaptation of Dickens’ holiday classic, ‘Humbug’ is sure to please theatre-goers of all ages. “With a contemporary flair, it is a tale the whole family will enjoy,” Mr. Schwendemann said.

“Play rehearsals have been going wonderfully,” Ms. Rodriguez said. “We have been working extremely hard these past weeks and it is always so much fun. So much care has been put into our show during these rehearsals. We do all sorts of important things including individual scene work and full run-throughs, which we have been able to incorporate into rehearsals since we finished blocking the show and are more important now than ever given opening night is just around the corner. Everything we have done has been crucial to the rehearsal process and the show’s success.”

Tickets priced at $10 for all shows will be available at the door. Senior citizens (65+) will be admitted free to Saturday’s matinee.

“Being able to do all this alongside such extraordinary people, makes it even more amazing than it already is,” Ms. Rodriguez said. “With the hard work that myself and the rest of the cast has been putting in, and a truly amazing and ultimately heartwarming show such as ‘Humbug,’ I can already feel that all our hard work is truly going to pay off. I cannot wait for audiences to experience the magic with us next weekend!”
