Flower Hill Sets School Based Team Goals
November 29, 2023
Flower Hill Primary School’s Shared Decision Making Committee established a pair of school based team goals for the 2023/24 school year.
Flower Hill, which first came on line in Huntington UFSD in September 1954 has continued to provide uninterrupted service to the community for nearly 70 years. The school is led by Principal Rosecindy Siegel.
Goal No. 1
The Shared Decision Making Team will provide opportunities to families to maximize communication between the school and home in order to ensure a more informed and engaged school community.
Action Plan
• Plan and implement family engagement events. Some events will include “Our Story Novel” activities; Multicultural Dinner Night (recipe books); Math Night; school beautification, etc.
• Create monthly newsletters with school updates, announcements and highlights of student progress.
• Host parent workshops on various topics based on parent input.
• Continue to incorporate the PTA buddy program and welcoming committee.
Assessment
Conduct parent surveys and exit tickets to solicit ideas and feedback. This will provide organizers with information to make necessary improvements based on their input.
Goal No. 2
The Flower Hill community will work together to create a nurturing, supportive and inclusive environment where students have the means to develop and apply their social and emotional learning skills.
Action Plan
• Continue to implement the positive behavioral interventions and support program.
• Implement the Flower Hill Book Club to foster a growth mindset.
• Implement the Kindness Squad to engage the school community in monthly acts of kindness.
• Incorporate Mindfulness Mondays. The initiative will start the week on a calm and focused note. For one minute, students will focus on a guided breathing exercise to center and calm their minds.
Assessment
Students will complete quarterly surveys to assess the impact of meeting this goal.
