November 28, 2023
The Huntington Highsteppers dance team will hold a winter clinic on Sunday, December 3 in the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School gym. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. The clinic will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A family showcase will be held between 2:00-2:30 p.m.
Registration for the clinic is $35 and is available by using the QR code on the clinic flyer, which is posted on the district website. The clinic will focus on pom, jazz, hip hop and kick.
The Highsteppers are well-known for their hip performances. The group is comprised of skilled dancers and talented performers.
The team is coached by Kristiana Salerno and Paige Tyree Furman and Jeannette Gross. The Highsteppers have a long tradition of excellence and have won local, regional, state and national honors. The squad frequently performs at halftime of varsity football and basketball games. The dancers train and rehearse several times during each week.
This year’s squad features seniors Adriana Abbatiello, Zaida Correal, Camilla D’Anna, Lea Devoe, Ariana James, Raleigh Shuck and Ava Tizzio; juniors Rosie Arner and Alyssa Evans; sophomores Kymora Dorvilus, Kyra Larsen and Anna McCormick; freshmen Gianna Brady, Addison Delfino, Chloe Donovan and Jordyn Gross and eighth grader Emma Stensland.
Next Sunday’s winter clinic was organized by the Highsteppers advisors and this year’s team of high school dancers. They all worked hard to develop a fun program and then promoted the event for weeks, attracting an exceptional level of interest.
Sunday’s clinic participants will work with the Highsteppers to learn all sorts of dance moves and even how to use pom-poms. It will be interesting to see how quickly the youngsters learn all the ins and outs of competitive dancing and the different aspects of a Highstepper performance.
