Huntington’s junior varsity boys’ soccer team enjoyed an incredible season, finishing 15-1. The Blue Devils were captained by Hamilton Giron, Robbie Campbell, Justin Soto and Edgar Vidal-Villalba and coached by Jose Alfaro.
The Huntington JV was perfect in league games with a 13-0 mark. The team went 2-1 in non-league contest. Alfaro cited the team’s “amazing chemistry” along with many talented players as the source of the success.
Freshman Robbie Campbell led the Blue Devils with 22 goals. The teenager was able to fire off equally powerful shots with either foot. Freshman Javier Mancia tallied 15 goals. Alfaro called him a “left foot phenom” and a great dribbler as well as being “a bull in front of the goal.”
Sophomore Justin Soto was a “midfield maestro and the brain in the middle,” Alfaro said. Eighth grade goalkeeper Edwin Caballero won all 15 games in the net.
The Blue Devil JV outscored its opponents by a breathtaking, 59-12. “Our team chemistry was off the charts,” Alfaro said. “The boys were driven and were prideful in their work. They had passion to be better every day.”
Huntington’s roster also included freshmen Jayson Chavez-Menjivar, Jonathan Contreras, Steven Contreras Moreira, Xavier Garcia, Alexis Gomez Hernandez, Greyson Henderson, Ezra Oddoye, Jesse Perez, Eduarado Reyes-Flores and Michael Tucker; sophomores Samuel Bonilla Fernandez, Angel Flores and Junior Quintanilla Gonzalez; and juniors Estyven Arreaga Merida, Kevin Maldonado-Molina, Henry Mendez-Martinez and Gustavo Ramirez Castillo.
