November 16, 2023
In less than two short years, Manuel Orellana has won over classmates and teachers at Huntington High School. The sophomore plays on the Blue Devil varsity boys’ soccer team that reached the Suffolk Class AA finals this fall. He’s taking a full schedule of classes, including Advanced Placement Spanish Language and even Introduction to Photography.
“My experience at Huntington High School has been even better than I expected thanks to people like Mrs. Eileen González and Mrs. Guevara Moreira, who from the beginning gave me their support and guidance, of which I am very grateful,” Mr. Orellana said. “I would like to continue learning many more things from people like them.”
The teenager has a nice circle of friends and is very well liked by his Huntington soccer teammates. Faculty members like Regents Bilingual Living Environment teacher Rosario Lorenzana. He has a gentle way of positively influencing those around him.
“Last summer I had the opportunity to get to know many new places and be able to practice mountain biking that together with spending time with my family, made the summer vacation an incredible and unforgettable experience,” Mr. Orellana said.
The teenager is doing well in his classes and extracurricular activities. “This year, I was given an opportunity to take courses like AP Spanish and be able to play the sport I am most passionate about in Huntington; varsity soccer.
“One of the things that excites me the most is to have the honor of representing the United Amigos club as one of the presidents and together with Mrs. Lorenzana and the other members of the club demonstrate that Hispanic people can have a great impact on society,” Mr. Orellana said.
