November 15, 2023
The Huntington High School’s annual Math Honor Society badminton tournament drew 12 competing teams late last week. The field included three teacher squads, making for a fun event for all.
The nine student teams were all competitive, but a team comprised of Blue Devil varsity badminton players defeated them all to take home the coveted trophy. Chaste Flores, Anis Oyuela Herrera, Harry Cuadra, and Juan Erazo Turcios dominated play and were undefeated in the tournament.
One team of high school math teachers consisted of Alexa Gentile, Nick Wagner and Chad Marinelli. A second team of math teachers featured JoAnn Ferazi, Kara Horn, Kristine Lattanzio, Gina Maniscalco and Sehar Zubair. The third teacher team consisted of science teachers consisted of Joseph Monroy, Anna Jao, Jake Tripolone and art teacher Jenna Merget.
The sensational event was planned by Math Honor Society executive board members Ben Edgar-McNerney (president), Katherine Estrada (vice president), Jessica Maixner (treasurer), Eli Soric (secretary) and Angel Villatoro (tutoring coordinator). Faculty advisors Monica Racz and Jordan Swierkowski helped coordinate the big day.
“We were able to raise $240 that will be dedicated to our annual scholarships,” Ms. Swierkowski said.
“Our second big fundraiser of the year will be on March 14, 2024 to celebrate Pi (3.14) Day,” Ms. Racz said. “Please come out to support the Math Honor Society and enjoy a lot of yummy treats!”
