Senior Lucas Spagnoletti Continues Scientific Research
November 15, 2023
It’s hard to determine where Lucas Spagnoletti is more comfortable; a classroom, pool or science lab. The Huntington High School senior has excelled in all three areas and continues striving to be the best version of himself.
Mr. Spagnoletti’s academic average is near perfect while acing many of Huntington’s most challenging and difficult courses. He’s also an All-State swimmer who is expected to lead the Blue Devils in the pool this winter.
The senior is enrolled in Advanced Placement Statistics, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Spanish Language, AP US Government & Politics with Economics, AP Chemistry, Science Research Honors, Health and a credit bearing career internship with science teacher Lori Kenny.
The teenager has been a science research star for many years and he shows no sign whatsoever of letting up. Mr. Spagnoletti has set a goal for himself to join his brother, Evan at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and swim there for its NCAA Division I team.
“Over the summer I started a new research project, working with CUNY School of Medicine in Harlem,” Mr. Spagnoletti said. “I examined the effects of unaffordable healthcare on low income patient health outcomes. I am continuing to work on the project this year and will be collecting more data this month to hopefully submit it to the Long Island Science & Engineering Fair competition.”
Mr. Spagnoletti is most certainly the inquisitive type. “I also am currently working with several Columbia University professors and researchers on encoding information into a national database to help found a new topic of science called ‘Exposomics,’” he said, “In short, Exposomics is the study of how the environment affects our health.”
