November 14, 2023

Thomas Girimonti has been one of Huntington High School’s exceedingly rare three sport athletes, starting on the golf, basketball and lacrosse teams. But he has a special love for the latter and has committed to play for Wesleyan University once he days as a Blue Devil mainstay are over.

President of Huntington High School’s Varsity Club, Girimonti has a near perfect academic average. He participated in a signing ceremony to commemorate his commitment to Wesleyan, which was founded in 1831 and is located in Middletown in central Connecticut about two hours from both New York City and Boston.

“Wesleyan offered everything I was looking for in a college,” Girimonti said. “It has the right academic fit for me, a perfect lacrosse program and a great location, because I wanted to be close to home. The campus was really nice as well, which made me feel at home.”

“Wesleyan University is a diverse, energetic liberal arts community where critical thinking and practical idealism go hand in hand,” according to the university’s website. “Our student body of approximately 3,000 undergraduate and 200 graduate students is housed on a beautiful 316-acre historic New England campus that offers the comfort of an intimate and collaborative learning environment supported by renowned faculty, cutting-edge facilities and unique research opportunities.

The Huntington lax star said he’s planning to study in Wesleyan’s School of Economics. Girimonti is currently taking four Advanced Placement courses in Calculus AB, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics and Physics.

At the recent signing ceremony in the high school’s main lobby, he was joined by his parents, Amy and Joe and Blue Devil varsity lacrosse coach, Julian Watts. Principal Brenden Cusack also joined the group in a commemorative photo.

Taking the field for Huntington, has been something special for the teenager. “It means everything to me,” Girimonti said. “The feeling going there with my teammates while wearing a Blue Devil jersey on is really awesome.”
