Caterin Andrade is a sweet and sincere young woman who is working hard to make all of her dreams come true. The Huntington High School junior always strives to do her best and her efforts are not going unnoticed.
Huntington science teacher Rosario Lorenzana is one of the teenager’s biggest fans. Ms. Andrade is both interning with the longtime faculty member and also serving as her lab assistant.
Ms. Andrade spends part of each school day studying in the medical assistant program at Wilson Tech. She is learning how to become a member of a health care team, including working in physician offices and clinics. There’s an emphasis on assisting with examinations and treatment as well as office skills and even front desk reception.
The teenager is vice president of the high school’s United Amigos club. It helps students new to the US and the district have a successful experience in all aspects of their school and personal life.
Ms. Andrade is enjoying her classes. “I am really excited about doing an internship at Wilson Tech,” she said. “I am going to be able to have experience in the medical field as a medical assistant.”
The junior always tries to remain positive. She has a nice circle of friends that offers encouragement and support. “My experience at Huntington High School started off a bit rocky, but through the years it started getting better,” Ms. Andrade said.
The teenager is a serious student. “I spent most of my summer reviewing everything I learned in my first year of medical assisting,” Ms. Andrade said. “I want to become an ultrasound technician and one of the colleges I have in mind is Long Island University because it has a really good four year sonography program.”
