Huntington Vocalists to Participate in Nationals for Top Choirs
November 2, 2023
The Huntington High School chamber and concert choirs are stepping up their game. The talented groups will participate in the 2024 Choirs of America Nationals for Top Choirs in April at Carnegie Hall in Manhattan.
The event has become the leading destination for choral programs looking for the highest magnitude choral festival experience. Huntington choral director Victoria Garbarino is the trip organizer.
“We meet our mission to ‘engage, inspire and educate choirs’ from across the country by bringing them in contact with the finest conductors, composers and educators in the industry,” according to the organization. “Each event is grounded in the belief that collaboration is far better than competition. Each program emphasizes high level educational adjudications, full one-hour clinics and amazing performance opportunities hand in hand with collaborative interaction with other choirs and teaching artists.”
The Huntington vocalists will study with one of America’s finest choral directors in Rollo Dillworth and perform a world-premiere with well-known composer Rosephanye Powell while also engaging in clinics and workshops.
Huntington School Board members approved a field trip that will stretch from early morning on April 4 to the evening of April 5. More than 50 student-vocalists and five adult chaperones will make the trip.
The high school’s elite chamber choir features Josephine Sullivan, Michaela Dopico, Liva Camarata, Chloe Hunt, Layna Abraham, Lily Wasoski, Alexa Schirripa, Emily Kustera, Sofia Rodriguez, Mia Molina-Baptista, Rachel Huth, Emily Barba, Walter Lopez Martinez, Samuel Soric, Jake Amend, Sergio Portillo, Jayden Roman, Taishawn Olton, James Stensland, Devon Elvir-Cover, Kevin Dominguez and Alexander Tine.
