Blue Devil Girls Track Set to Roar

March 22, 2023

The Huntington varsity girls’ spring track and field team has been going through its paces every afternoon for the past two weeks. The roster features 37 athletes spread across grades 9-12. Coaches Kevin Thorbourne and Sarah Hall are working with the squad in more than a dozen events.

“This team is full of hard workers and talented athletes and we are so excited for a great season of growth and hopefully lots of points and wins,” Hall said. “In addition to the returnees from previous seasons ready to keep moving forward, we are also so happy to have a lot of new faces who hope to make a name for themselves in their events and contribute to our team’s success.”

While the league meets are fixed, the schedule of invitational competitions is still taking shape. The Blue Devil girls’ will travel to Maryland with the Huntington boys’ team next month. Another invitational in the Catskills region is also a distinct possibility along with several on Long Island. Huntington will host its own Dennis Walker Classic on April 15.

“Although everyone on our team shows a lot of talent and potential, we have a handful who have already been standouts during our first week of the season,” Hall said.
