Reading and Fun at Washington School

March 21, 2023

Reading, reading and more reading means fun, fun and more fun for Washington Primary School students who recently participated in PARP Family Night, which included interactive English language arts activities for the youngsters and their families to enjoy.

Washington’s PTA and faculty members teamed up to make the event a success. “Each family received a Pokémon passport to guide them as they navigated throughout the evening,” Principal Michelle Richards said.

There were seven stations including a read aloud station as teachers Emily Meyers and Rebecca Kraus read “Read All About It;” A reading application station that saw teachers Ashley Pimentel and Nick Matarazzo facilitate an activity that allowed students and families to create their own stories based on the story “Read All About It;” A reading and movement station where teachers Jeffrey Dicker and Lauren Whitney facilitated a total physical response activity that required students to move and interact with high frequency words; A tattoo, bookmark and Pikachu station where PTA President Holly Zarcone engaged students and families as they decorated their bodies and bookmarks related to the PARP theme “Gotta Read’em All;” A Pokémon ball craft where PTA Secretary Joanna Gray facilitated an activity that saw students and families completing a Pokémon ball craft; and a Pikachu Origami station with parent Suzanne Yoda who guided students and families through intricate steps to create a Pikachu origami.

“Families also visited the spring book fair to purchase books to build their home libraries,” Dr. Richards said.
