Huntington Robotics Ready for Competition

March 21, 2023

Huntington Robotics is in the midst of its competitive season and the juices are flowing at Huntington High School where the technological wizards are working hard on this year’s drive for a championship.

“Our build season is finally over and we would love to share our final product with the Huntington community,” said team members in a group statement. “We have created a video for the FIRST(For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Impact Award. The video showcases all the different ways the team has an impact on the teammates, alumni, mentors and above all else the community.”

Huntington Robotics has finished building its competitive robot. “Our robot extends out using a grabber that uses wheels to pull in cubes and cones,” the team explained. “Using a sophisticated PID loop (formula used to stabilize segways) the robot places the cubes and cones on different levels to score points. Using that same stabilization feature, the robot balances its self on a sea saw like platform.”

Huntington Robotics visited Flower Hill Primary School earlier this month for PARP related activities. The high school team members showed off their robot in hallways as fascinated Flower Hill students looked on and discussed the value to reading for those wishing to engage in STEM related fields.

Regional competitions are scheduled at Hofstra University on March 20-22 and in Albany on March 30-April 1. Woodhull Intermediate School students on the First Lego League Dragon Racers team are also expected to attend the competition at Hofstra.
