SCOPE summer enrichment program registration is now open

Huntington’s SCOPE Summer Enrichment Registration Open

March 21, 2023

Don’t miss out on this year’s SCOPE summer music and arts enrichment program, which will run from Monday, June 26 through Friday, July 21. Huntington UFSD is once again collaborating with SCOPE on the initiative, which will be co-directed by teachers Jenna Merget and Nicole Lynch. The program will feature 29 courses in all.

The program is for students entering first through ninth grades. It will be held at Huntington High School. Fees are set at $139 per class in Session I (June 26-July 7) and $149 per class in Session II (July 10-21) with a 10 percent sibling discount. The two separate sessions allow students to enroll in additional classes within the program

Participants may choose to register for up to three periods of classes per session. Periods are 75 minutes in length and run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. Space is limited. Courses are filled in the order in which registrations are received.

Registration is now open through www.scopeonline.us. Click on the link for “Summer and School Year Enrichment 2022-23” and then on “Huntington Enrichment.” The registration and refund deadline is June 1, 2023.

“Nicole and I make a great team,” Mrs. Merget said. “With her knowledge in music, mine in the arts and our ability to integrate STEM into our program, we feel that we have developed fun and educational classes that all students will enjoy!”

An assortment of 29 art, music and STEM related courses are designed to appeal to the wide ranging tastes of students spread across grades 1-9.

“We have a new STEM teacher joining us with some exciting new classes and, of course, some of our past favorites being taught by our very own Huntington music and art teachers,” Ms. Lynch said. “We hope that this new layout is helpful for families and allows more students to participate.”

Session I courses include Arts & Crafts, Ceramics & Sculpture, Beginning Orchestra, Beginning Band, AI Coding & Robotics, Fashion Design, Advanced Orchestra, Advanced Band, Edible Science, Cartooning, Piano Intro, Ukulele Intro and Makerspace & Engineering.

Session II courses includes Beginning Orchestra, Beginning Band, Arts & Crafts, Ceramics and Sculpture, Lego & Robotics, Advanced Orchestra, Advanced Band, Polymer Clay, Comic Book Design, Video Game Design, Fashion Design, Electronic Music, Ukulele Intro and Rocketry.

“This will be our first year running the camp with a three-period day and breaking up the program into two sessions,” Mrs. Merget said.

This year’s Musical Theater camp will run for three full periods per day (8:30 a.m. to 12:25 p.m.) during both Session I and Session II of the program. The fee for Session I is $399 with the fee for Session II set at $429.

“Singing, acting and movement,” states the description for Musical Theater camp. “Students will be singing and acting in this creative class as we prepare for a mini production. All students are encouraged to sign up for this course regardless of acting/singing experience.”

Organizers believe the month long program will be well-received by participants. All classes will be offered at Huntington High School.

“We are very excited to open up registration this year with our new program layout,” Ms. Lynch said. “This year we are offering two separate sessions that can be taken if vacations limit student availability. Often times students have missed out because they were unavailable for one of the four weeks, so we have made some changes to try to help our families out. Students will now have the option to take one session or participate in both. We have also chosen to have three longer periods this year to allow students to have sufficient time to finalize projects or learn new music. Musical Theater will be a four-hour daily program that will allow students to still put on a nice mini-show at the end of each two-week session.”
