Blue Devil Girls’ Winter Track Wraps Season

Huntington’s girls’ winter track and field team wrapped up its season at the county championships. The Blue Devils were coached by John Kaplan and Sarah Hall and captained by Jannel Marroquin, Megan Donaghy and Sophie Bradford.

Andrea Mani-Munoz and Talia Addeo garnered All-League honors in the racewalk and Jamyn Husselbeck, Kohana Nakamura, Donaghy and Bradford were All-League in the 4x400m relay. Emma Boyle, Emma Polinsky and Olivia Polinsky also enjoyed fine seasons.

“Megan Donaghy is a great lead by example athlete,” Kaplan said. “She was dealing with some injuries, but managed to finish the season off on a high note with a season best in the 600m.”

Boyle, Husselbeck and Nakamura were also praised by their coach. “They are all freshmen that had a great season,” Kaplan said. “All showed great improvement and posted some great times in the 1000m, 600m, 400m and 55m events.”

Huntington finished ninth in the league standings. “Something that was amazing is that every single athlete on the team improved over the course of the season,” Kaplan said. “The team working hard and was able to see improvement each week of the season.”

Kaplan said the team enjoyed “great leadership” and added that it was a “hardworking group.” The coach said he hopes the Blue Devils improve and finish in the top five in the league next winter.
