The Huntington School Board has adopted a proposed district calendar for the 2023/24 school year. Trustees voted unanimously at their February 6 public meeting to approve the plan, which will have school begin on Wednesday, September 6 and finish on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.
Teachers and staff are required to be in their respective building for meetings on Friday and Tuesday, September 1 and September 5. There will be 180 days of instruction with three other days set aside for faculty conferences. Two contingency days are also built into the plan to address possible school closings due to weather or other emergencies.
Classes will not be held on September 25 (Yom Kippur), October 9 (Columbus Day), November 7 (Election Day/Superintendent’s Conference Day), November 10 (Veterans Day), November 22-24 (Thanksgiving recess), December 25-January 1 (winter recess), January 15 (Martin Luther King Day), February 19-23 (President’s Day/mid-winter recess), March 28-April 1 (spring recess No. 1), April 10 (Eid al-Fitr), April 22-26 (spring recess No. 2), May 24 and May 27 (Memorial Day recess) and June 19 (Juneteenth).
Should there be an emergency related closure during the school year, classes will be in session on May 24. Should a second emergency close schools, classes will also be in session on April 10.
