Alumni Day at Huntington High School

December 21, 2023

Huntington High School’s Alumni Day drew 11 recent graduates to the School Heritage Museum, who shared their college experiences with current students.

The alums included Cristian Avelar-Romero (Cornell University; mechanical engineering), Kate Balm (University of Texas at Austin; sociology), Yoselin Fuentes (Farmingdale State College; sociology), Emily Geller (George Washington University; political science; law and society minor), Ally Kustera (University of Southern California; game development and interactive design; customer analytics minor), Kenia Moreno (Suffolk County Community College; psychology), Keylin Quintanilla (Suffolk County Community College; liberal arts), Yanira Rivera Ronquillo (CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice; forensic psychology; cybercrime minor), Sol Rodriguez (Binghamton University; biology) and Sophia Segal (American University; political science).

“We offered two English speaking presentations and two in Spanish,” said Jeannette Alomia, district director of guidance and testing, K-12. “The audience was primarily our Class of 2024 members.” Six of the 11 alumni-presenters are bilingual.

Ms. Alomia and her team of counselors worked hard to make the event a success. The alumni panel shared their college experiences over the course of periods 3-6.

“I’m extremely proud of our alumni as they candidly shared their college experiences with our seniors,” Ms. Alomia said. “Because of this program, seniors walked away feeling empowered and optimistic about their future as they received first-hand information on what to expect when they attend college in the fall. I am extremely grateful for the counselors’ efforts in making this event a success.”
