H-ton Key Club Rallies for Project TOY
December 21, 2023
The Huntington High School Key Club has seized upon the spirit of the season, collaborating with the Family Service League of Huntington to make Project TOY more special than ever for local families and kids.
Project TOY (Treasures Our Youth) gives parents of struggling families an opportunity to choose two new unwrapped gifts for their children. The annual holiday boutique at the Tri-CYA facility is a time of utter joy for parents, who are excited to be able to provide their children with toys that they otherwise couldn’t afford.
The Family Service League estimates that 2,000 families applied to participate in Project TOY this year, “so it's a good thing that the students of Huntington High School donated over 200 gifts to this local cause,” said Key Club faculty advisor Kelly Krycinski.
The drive ran from November 28 to December 15. Huntington High School’s Key Club chapter sponsored the drive, but many students donated beyond club members. “We also had staff and families send in gifts, too,” said teacher Gina Colica, who serves as the organization’s faculty advisor along with Ms. Krycinski.
Family Service League representative Chrissy Frintzilas, a Huntington High School alum “was overjoyed to see so many bags of toys brought down to the lobby,” Ms. Colica said. “Students packed the gifts into her car as well, despite the terrible weather on Monday.”
The longstanding annual toy drive makes a difference in the community. “We are elated by the overwhelming support received by all those who donated, and we look forward to helping again next year,” Ms. Krycinski said.
