Blue Devils Crown Four Tournament Champions

The Huntington wrestling team crowned four weight class champions at the Ralph Jansson Holiday Tournament at Valley Stream North last Saturday, but was nipped in the final team standings by a half-point by Wantagh.

Blue Devils Jonathan Granito (138 lbs.), Vincent Pupillo (152), Max Casiano (160) and Christian St. John (170) all captured first place. Granito, Casiano and St. John all pinned their opponents in the finals. Pupillo was impressive in shutting out Herricks’ Earfon Rad, 6-0.

Huntington’s Walter Kusterbeck (116) and Thomas Smith (190) finish second at their respective weight. Christopher Granito (101) placed third. Kingsley Evans (116) and Brandon Fucci (145) both finished fourth.

Dual Meet Victory

Huntington improved its dual meet record to 5-1 with a 44-19 league victory at West Islip last Friday night.

The Blue Devils got pins from Casiano, St. John, Jason Mejia, Jeffrey Quintanilla and Chris Granito. Jonathan Granito won by technical fall. Walter Kusterbeck earned a 4-0 decision. Thomas Smith won by forfeit.

Huntington takes to the mat again on Friday in a league meet against Smithtown West at home in Louis D. Giani Gym. The varsity is slated for 5:30 p.m. with the JV to follow at 6:45 p.m.
