Blue Devil Mock Trial Team Continues to Prep
December 8, 2023
The Huntington High School mock trial team’s opening match is still about eight weeks away, but the defending Suffolk County champions are deep in the midst of preparations for the 2024 campaign, which will feature a criminal trial after the Blue Devils argued a civil case last year.
Huntington’s roster is filled with proven veterans and some exciting newcomers. The group has been working with legal advisor Xavier Palacios and faculty advisors Suzi Biagi and Bryan Outsen, who are both business teachers.
“This upcoming mock trial season is looking very bright,” Elizabeth James said. “With so many newcomers and returning members I feel we are coming back with a very strong attorney and witness bench. This year we have a criminal case, which is my personal favorite. I’m so excited to be back in the swing of things as we revived our case last week and started writing material. I can already see that county champion trophy!”
Huntington has regular season matches against John H. Glenn, West Islip, Miller Place and Southampton. The home contests against West Islip and Miller Place will be argued in the high school’s Room 140 – School Heritage Museum.
“This season our team is a mix of veterans and newcomers, a combination of experience and fresh talent,” Isabella Careccia-Johnson said. “So far, we are working hard to prepare our materials and practice as much a possible before competition. As always, I want to thank our wonderful attorney coach, Xavier Palacios, as well as Ms. [Suzi] Biagi and Mr. [Bryan] Outsen, our dedicated faculty advisers. Additionally, I express my gratitude to Don Savatta, another knowledgeable attorney who is helping us out this year. Overall, I am looking forward to this season immensely.”
