Huntington Boys’ Golf Plans for Future Success

December 7, 2023

The Huntington varsity boys’ golf team will be graduating three seniors off the 2023 roster, but the Blue Devils will return its best golfer along with many other talented athletes and be a formidable force in Suffolk next fall.

Huntington head coach Michael Marinello is already formulating plans for next year’s team, which will see conference champion Will Fallon return to lead the Blue Devils. The 2023 team compiled a 10-0 record and league title en route to reaching the county final four round.

Huntington will graduate Tom Girimonti, Declan Kehoe and Nicholas Sclafani. Kehoe garnered All-League and All-Conference honors while Sclafani was All-League. Girimonti has been a mainstay in the varsity lineup.

Fallon went 6-3-1 in league play in the No. 1 position and Kehoe was 6-4 in the No. 2 spot. Sclafani was 9-1 in the No. 3 position.

“Will is a confident and capable golfer,” Marinello said. “Our best team accomplishment was finishing 10-0 in a very competitive League II. We won several very close matches.”

Fallon, who captured All-County recognition and All-League Chase Gadaire, who was a perfect 10-0 in the No. 5 position this past fall, will lead Huntington into the 2024 campaign.

“We will be good next fall,” Marinello said. “If the kids play the Met PGA tournaments over the summer we can be very good. The JV team that was instituted this past year should pay immediate dividends. We lose three seniors, but we get back our captain in Will Fallon. The younger JV players will fill in for the outgoing seniors. We should be contenders for a league title and make a deep run into the county tournament.”
