National Honor Society Chapter Holds 70th Induction

The Nathan Hale chapter of the National Honor Society at Huntington High School held its 70th annual induction ceremony this week, welcoming 54 new members into the scholarly organization.

Principal Brenden Cusack spoke at the Nationa Honor Society induction.

Huntington’s National Honor Society chapter is led by Katherine Estrada (president), Kaylee Splendorio (vice president), Reese Rinaldi (treasurer), Sophie Lange (secretary), Marley Joseph (tutoring coordinator), Andrea Mani-Munoz (administrative assistant) and Damaris Mani-Munoz (administrative assistant). Teacher Tara Rossy serves as faculty advisor.

The new members include Brennan Ackerman, Ella Ackerman, Anthony Addeo, Julia Aldas, Jake Amend, Liva Camarata, Isabella Careccia-Johnson, Ada Cruz-Gutierrez, Charlotte Curtin, Lauren Donaghy, William Fallon, Nina Fascilla, Keylis Flores-Velazquez, Stephen Connor Fox, Chase Gadaire, Vincenza Garofalo, Sofia Gomez Calderon, Rafaella Gregorio, Amalia Heinz, Julia Henderson, Natalia Hernandez, Jayden Hoff Isabell, Jenna Italiano, Elizabeth James, Griffin Kanzer and Emily Kustera.

Those inducted also include James Larson, Rachel Learned, Colin Lennon, Caitlin Maherr Dubnau, Tess Markotsis, Sam McGloin, Michael Mendikyan, Mia Molina-Baptista, George Mueger, Molly O’Brien, Maggie O’Toole, Natalie Parrott, Nicholas Plachta, Dylan Proctor, Erika Reyes, Aine Rimkunas, Gricelle Rojas, Chelsea Romero, Kai Rotunno, Ryan Scanlon, Alexa Schirripa, Thomas Smith, Samuel Soric, Josephine Sullivan, Anne Tyrrell, Harrison Uvena, Jennifer Vallejo Ortiz and Angel Villatoro.

Chapter officers Damari Mani-Munoz, Reese Rinaldi, Sophie Lange and Marley Joseph took turns speaking about the group’s membership pillars of character, scholarship, leadership and service. President Katherine Estrada and Vice President Kaylee Splendorio led the tapping of the inductees. Mr. Cusack presented the new members with certificates. Mrs. Rossy administered the National Honor Society pledge.

The chamber choir performed during the ceremony. Mr. Cusacks offered remarks early in the program and business teacher Suzette Biagi was this year’s guest speaker.

A reception followed the induction in the main lobby outside the auditorium. Parents snapped countless photos and students showed off their membership certificates.

The National Honor Society’s motto is “Noblesse Oblige,” a French term that translates in English to “nobility obligates.” The new members are expected to assist all students on the path toward academic excellence through a variety of tutoring and community service activities.
