H-ton Vocalists Perform at NYSSMA All-State Conference

Huntington High School juniors Liva Camarata and Samuel Soric were spectacular at last weekend’s New York State School Music Association All-State conference at the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music.
“I’m beaming with pride that two of our choral students had the honor of representing Huntington at the All-State conference,” said music teacher Victoria Garbarino, who directs the choral program. “Liva was even selected as the soprano soloist for one of the pieces. Sam and Liva are not only incredible musicians, but incredible people.”
The Huntington duo took delight in being picked to perform among the best of the best in the state.
“All-State was such an amazing experience,” Ms. Camarata said. “I was so honored to be selected to sing amongst all these talented singers across New York and I was even more excited to perform a solo in ‘I Am Glad.’ All-State is something that I have worked hard towards for a long time now and it was so spectacular to perform with a group of students who have put in so much time and dedication into music as well. Listening to such a powerful choir, you can really hear all the hard work and passion in every note and lyric and I was so glad to be able to be a part of that. Rehearsals were long and strenuous, but in the end the results at the concert were worth it. The whole experience made me appreciate music and singing even more. I am so thankful for all the opportunities that have been offered to me.”
The Huntington student-performers really thrived in the high-powered atmosphere.
“All-State was such an amazing opportunity and I’m so grateful to have been chosen to perform in such a prestigious choir conducted by Dr. Gary Packwood from Mississippi State University, along with 300 talented musicians from all over New York State,” Mr. Soric said. “Being around so many students with the same passion for music as I have was a great feeling. I hope to consider the Eastman School of Music in Rochester as I begin college searching.”
