Blue Devil Fall Athletes Garner State Scholar Honors

December 5, 2023

Ten fall season varsity athletic teams at Huntington High School have earned coveted New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Awards based on the grade point averages of respective team members.

Huntington’s football, girls’ swimming and diving, field hockey, girls’ cross country, boys’ cross country, boys’ golf, girls’ soccer, girls’ gymnastics, girls’ tennis and girls’ volleyball programs all captured state scholar athlete team awards. A total of 115 individual Blue Devil athletes recognized, which is five more than who was honored during the 2022 fall season.

“It is great to see so many of our Huntington teams and individuals be recognized for their hard work in and out of the classroom,” Superintendent Christian Bowen said. “Congratulations to all of our scholar athletes.”

To receive team recognition, the team’s average GPA for 75 percent of the roster must be equal to or greater than 90.00. Higher athlete GPAs can be used offset lower ones. However, only students with a 90 or above receive scholar athlete pins, even if a student with a lower GPA was used in the calculation. (Only high school student-athletes are eligible. Seventh and eighth graders participating on varsity teams are not included in the program.)
