Help Huntington Students Stuff the Bus
April 28, 2023
Community service is an important component of the lives of Huntington High School and a concern for the homeless and hungry and for families who just don’t have enough food to eat is always present. So Saturday’s food collection outside of King Kullen in Halesite on Saturday is vital.
Stuff the Bus is an annual high school student government initiatives. Students spend weeks collecting non-perishable food items and when the drive is complete, Huntington Coach Corp. donates the use of a school bus that students “stuff” with the collected items and then deliver them to several food pantries around town.
“Our student government class officers have been collecting toiletries and non-perishables at local grocery stores for the last couple of months,” explained David Moriarty, who serves as the organization’s co-faculty advisor along with Danielle Raguzin. “We have done six collections so far spread between King Kullen in Halesite, Stop and Shop in the village and the new Shop Rite at the Big H on New York Avenue. So if anyone is doing their shopping on April 29 and they want to do a little good while shopping, they should go to King Kullen in Halesite between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. People can buy a few extra items to donate to our students right at the store.”
Food items can continue to be donated daily at Huntington High School until Saturday, May 13. “Our student government officers will be loading all the items we have collected onto a school bus generously donated for the day by Huntington Coach and driving them down to the outreach program at St. Hugh Church in Huntington Station as well as to the Huntington Community Food Council,” Mr. Moriarty said. “We hope to see lots of the Huntington family shopping at King Kullen on Saturday.”
