Sophomore John Joyce Enjoys a Variety of Classes

April 24, 2023

John Joyce is enjoying his experience at Huntington High School where the sophomore has dived into his classes along with clubs and sports. He works well with a diverse group of teachers and is surrounded by a wonderful set of friends.

Mr. Joyce is popular with his teachers, who appreciate his work ethic and commitment to his studies. The teenager’s academic grade average exceeded 102 in the second marking period.

He expresses an appreciation for his teachers and their daily efforts. “One of those teachers is Ms. [Suzi] Biagi, because she always works hard to help us learn,” Mr. Joyce said. “Another teacher is Mr. [Michael] Corcoran, since his class is always interesting and enjoyable.”

The sophomore hasn’t really focused on possible colleges or potential careers, “but I am interested in taking more law classes at the high school,” he said.

Outside of class, Mr. Joyce ran on the Blue Devil varsity cross country team and participates in the high school’s debate club and Key Club. “I may get involved with more clubs this year or next year, but I’m not sure,” he said.

Mr. Joyce and his family frequently travel, including annual visits to the sophomore’s grandparents in Florida. Last summer, the Joyce’s traveled to Croatia.

“I enjoy taking a variety of classes and I enjoy learning a variety of topics,” Mr. Joyce said. “That is why I love the amount of electives we can choose from, since I can take classes that interest me or help me to learn more about the world. Although I have had some difficulties, I have always worked hard to succeed. Participating in clubs and sports has also helped me.”

Mr. Joyce is currently enrolled in an interesting set of classes, including Advanced Placement World History, AP Human Geography, Honors Chemistry, Honors Spanish, Honors English, Geometry and Personal Law.

“I enjoy all of my classes, but specifically I enjoy my Personal Law class, since I get to learn many interesting things,” Mr. Joyce said. “I also enjoy my AP World History class, since I have always been interested in learning about history.”

As Mr. Joyce goes about his daily routine, he continues to excel in every possible way. “My experience at Huntington High School has been very positive,” he said. “All of my teachers have been great and they are always there to help when you need them. I was worried when I was going into my freshman year, but I realized that the school was much better than I expected.”

Eventually, Mr. Joyce will turn his attention for what comes next in his life. “In 10 years, I hope to have a career that interests me,” he said.
