The J. Taylor Finley Middle School boys’ tennis team is looking to ace its opposition this spring. An energetic group of seventh and eighth graders has been practicing since late last month and looks strong in both singles and doubles.
The 15 player team is coached by Southdown School physical education teacher John Romano. The squad practices on the three-court complex located on school grounds. A 10 meet schedule featuring five home and five away matches is set.
The roster includes seventh graders Clive Polinsky, Henry Schmid and Nicholas Tolentino and eighth graders Lucas Biancardo, Nickolay Caldwell, Jake Chiclacos, Ronan Driscoll, Braedan Kline, Brady LaCosta, Dennis McCook, Jackson Poli, Quinn Rinaldi, Jack Steinberg, Patrick Tortora and Michael Tucker.
Romano has been a Huntington physical education teacher since September 2018. He earned an undergraduate degree in sports management at Dowling College in 2007 and obtained a graduate degree in physical education at Adelphi University in 2011. He has coached boys’ and girls’ basketball, cross country, tennis, softball and baseball interscholastically.
