Dance-a-Thon Expected to Draw Crowd

April 14, 2023

It just might be a throwback to a bygone era, but that’s what is going to make the Huntington High School dance-a-thon next Thursday (April 20) from 5-9 p.m. in the gym so much fun. A large crowd is expected to attend.

English teacher Aimee Antorino is spearheading planning for the event along with her senior intern, Ella Kamenstein. All proceeds from the dance-a-thon will be earmarked to help support children who are undergoing treatment for pediatric cancer at Stony Brook Hospital and their families.

Everyone is on board to help make the event a success. For example, the Blue Devil varsity boys and girls badminton teams have given up the gym for the day.

“Planning for the dance-a-thon is making steam and we are really looking forward to the event next week,” Ms. Kamenstein said. “We are currently selling tickets during lunch periods and they will also be available at the door. They are $10 each. We also have great performances lined up from teachers, clubs and teams. If anyone is interested in performing they should definitely reach out!”

Food and drinks will be available in the gym lobby and organizers promise there will be “fun surprises in stores.”

“You don’t have to be able to dance to participate,” Ms. Kamenstein said. “This is an event to raise money  for pediatric cancer and to also have fun with friends and classmates.

It looks to be a unique late afternoon and evening for participants. “We are hoping for a big crowd, but of course it is the first year we are having the dance-a-thon, so we hope as many people as possible attend,” Ms. Kammenstein said.
