Seniors Laurel Bonn and Grace Agrillo have been named to Newsday’s Top 50 Long Island field hockey players this fall. The duo has helped Huntington get off to a great start. The Blue Devils are ranked No. 3 in Suffolk.

Both teenagers have been mainstays in the program for many years. They helped Huntington win 12 games last fall, including a playoff upset victory at West Islip. This year hopes are even higher.

Newsday said that Agrillo “has the ability to recover the ball and pass to the forwards. She is a flier on defensive corners and able to shut down opposing teams’ corners.”

Agrillo has loved wearing a Blue Devil field hockey uniform. “It’s meant everything,” she said. “I’m so proud to play this game for Coach [Kathy] Wright and Coach [Allison] Conlon and for Huntington High School and myself. I love field hockey. It is something that I have always enjoyed playing. To play wearing a Blue Devil uniform makes it extra special because of the history I have with Huntington High School. Both of my older sisters wore this uniform and I am proud to share that accomplishment with them.”

Newsday said Bonn is also one of Long Island’s finest field hockey players. She “was among the leading scorers in Suffolk last year with nine goals and eight assists,” the newspaper wrote. “Her excellent stick work and dodges allow her to transition the ball up the field as well as score on corners.”

Bonn has been on top of her game this year. “I am so grateful to be named a Top 50 player on Long Island alongside Grace,” the teenager said. “Being a part of the Huntington field hockey program is something that is so special to me. I will forever cherish the games, teammates and coaches. I truly love this sport and I can’t wait to see how far we go this season.”
