Huntington Golfers Drive Past Walt Whitman

September 16, 2022

The defending league champion Huntington varsity golf team overcame a stiff challenge by Walt Whitman to claim victory in the first match of the season at the Town of Oyster Bay’s golf course in Woodbury.

Playing without team captain Nicholas Sclafani while he recovers from an injury, the Blue Devil lineup performed well after a shaky start off the first tee.

Playing on the course’s front nine holes, Huntington turned back the Wildcats in an overall close match, 7-2. “It was a great season opener,” Blue Devil head coach Michael Marinello said. “Our kids overcame some challenges, but they played well. We will only get better as the season progresses.”

The Blue Devils were led by senior James Rosselli who shot a 42. Sophomores Jake Severine and Chase Gadaire and junior Declan Kehoe also won their matches.

Huntington’s roster also includes Anthony Addeo, Andrew Case, Gavin Deegan, Will Fallon, Thomas Girimonti, Thomas Kline, James Larson, George Mueger, Jibreel Murtaza, Evan Persampire, Ryan Scanlon, Cian Scott, Joseph Toscano, Harrison Uvena, Graham Gooch and Joseph Perotti.

The Blue Devils host Half Hollow Hills West and Commack next week on back-to-back days at the Huntington Crescent Club.
